How It Happened
HERSHEY, Pa. – Lebanon Valley's men's ice hockey squad dropped an 8-3 decision to Elmira on Friday night in UCHC action inside The GIANT Center. The Dutchmen dropped to 3-3-2, 2-2-2 UCHC, while the Soaring Eagles improved to 6-5-0, 5-2-0 UCHC.

LVC was the first to light the lamp when Brett Johnson scored from Cole Hepler and Zach Yingst 3:58 into the first for the early advantage. Elmira, however, answered in a big way, netted a power-play goal at 8:23 of the opening period, followed by an even-strength goal at 12:47 to overtake the Dutchmen at 2-1. That score stuck heading into the first intermission.

A four-goal middle period propelled the Soaring Eagles to a substantial lead, beginning just 1:48 into second-period action when Marty Kapoian netted an unassisted tally. Less than two minutes later, Ryan Blais scored on the man-advantage to make it 4-1, but LVC cut into Elmira's lead when Travis Acker scored on the power play from Tino Alunni at 15:47 to make it a two-goal game. Just 14 seconds later, however, Kapoian scored his second of the game, and just over a minute later Elmira went back up by four at 6-2 after Nick Grinvalds' score.

The Soaring Eagles put the Dutchmen away for good 4:04 into the third with Spencer MacLean's goal, and the visitors added another at 13:35 to go up 8-2. With 3:01 left in the third, Austin Zimmerman scored the first goal of his young career off assists from Skyler Pugh and Danny Galvez, but it was too little, too late for the Dutchmen as they fell 8-3.
