How It Happened
PITTBURGH, Pa. –
Jade Julius scored an unassisted goal in overtime to give Lebanon Valley's women's ice hockey team a 3-2 victory over Chatham University on Saturday night in United College Hockey Conference (UCHC) action. The Flying Dutchmen jumped to 2-2, 1-1-0 UCHC, while the Cougars dropped to 1-3, 1-1-0 UCHC.
Nine minutes into the opening period, Chatham's Michelle Jones slipped one by
Jill Moffatt with an assist from Kristina Block 9:and Sydney Collins to put the Cougars up 1-0. Chatham had four more shots on goal, but Moffatt stopped them all and LVC went into the second period down by just a goal.
In the opening moments of the second, the Dutchmen were called for a penalty allowing a Cougars' power-play opportunity, but Moffatt stood tall and stopped all seven shots she faced throughout the two-minute minor. Shortly after the advantage for Chatham ended,
Chloe Glass found the back of the net with the assist from Julius 6:09 into the second tying the score 1-1.
1:55 into the third, the Cougars' Sydney Collins scored an unassisted goal to put Chatham back up by one at 2-1. Then, at 13:09, Glass was at it again when she netted a short-handed goal from
Darby Seymour to knot the game for the second time of the night, this time at 2-2. For the remainder of the period, neither team could find the equalizer and overtime was needed to decide a winner.
After Moffatt stopped a few shots on some early scoring chances for Chatham early on in the extra period, a loose puck in the Cougars' zone came to the stick of Julius and she beat Chatham's goaltender, giving the Dutchmen a thrilling overtime-victory.
Inside the Numbers
- Glass finished with a pair of goals and skated to a +3 rating.
- Julius ended with a goal and an assist to go along with a +2 rating.

Amy Templeman was a +3.
- Moffatt finished with 40 saves in her second win of the season.
