How It Happened
PITTSTON, Pa. – Lebanon Valley's men's ice hockey team opened up 2018-19 United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) and Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) action by cruising past King's (Pa.) by a 7-3 score on Saturday afternoon, Nov. 3. The Dutchmen improved to 2-1, 1-0-0 UCHC, 1-0-0 MAC, while the Monarchs dropped to 0-3-0, 0-1-0 UCHC, 0-1-0 MAC.
LVC got off to a hot start when
Brett Johnson scored just 53 seconds into the game off assists from
Justin Hall and
Zach Balodis. Not long after,
Tino Alunni scored 3:27 into the first from
Travis Acker and
Cole Hepler to give the Dutchmen a 2-0 advantage. The Dutchmen got their third goal of the period less than four minutes later when Hall scored from the point from Johnson and
TJ Sneath to give LVC a comfortable 3-0 lead heading into the first intermission.
In the second, Sneath continued the offensive onslaught for the Dutchmen when he scored off an assist from Johnson to make it 4-0, then LVC's power-play struck with just over three minutes left in the second when Acker found the back of the net from Karas and Balodis. With 59 seconds to go in the middle period, King's got on the board when Jamie Lukas scored an unassisted tally, but the Dutchmen still went into the final period with a solid 5-1 advantage.
58 seconds into the third, the Monarchs came to within three of LVC with Christian La Croix's score, but just 24 seconds later, Karas put the game out of reach with an unassisted goal. Then, at 13:34, Alunni added his second of the night off an assist from Acker and the Dutchmen went on to win by a 7-2 score.
Inside the Numbers
- Alunni finished with a pair of goals on five shots and was a +2.
- Johnson had three points (1G, 2A) and skated to a +2 raiting.
- Karas and Sneath ended with a goal and an assist each.
- Baldois chipped in two assists as a defenseman.

Brad Nolan and Hepler were +3.
- Inside the faceoff circle,
Danny Galvez was an impressive 15-for-17.

Matt Forslund made his collegiate debut in between the pipes and stopped 27 of 29 shots to earn the victory.
- LVC led in total faceoff wins at 42-33.
