How It Happened
Despite career highs in points from Jordan Abdo and Mason Green, Lebanon Valley's men's basketball team dropped its MAC Commonwealth opener to Stevenson by an 84-79 margin on Wednesday night inside Sorrentino Gymnasium. The Dutchmen fell to 2-4, 0-1 MACC, while the Mustangs improved to 4-1 overall and 1-0 MACC.
Stevenson was able to jump out to a 12-2 lead three and a half minutes into the game before LVC started to fight back. The home team tightened up its defense and the push came when Green entered the game off the bench. Green poured in five 3-pointers in the first half on seven shots from beyond the arc. With Stevenson up by seven at 20-13 with 12:07 left, Green hit one of his five triples to cut the deficit to four with 11:48 remaining in the opening half. Later, AJ Catanzaro's jumper made it 22-21 in favor the vistors with 10:38 left. From there, the Mustangs went on an 11-4 spurt to go back up comfortably at 33-25 with 7:21 left.

The Dutchmen responded and tied up the game at 35-35 thanks to a 10-2 run that spanned just over three minutes of action, which was capped by Abdo's trey. After a Trevor Covey steal on Stevenson's ensuing possession, Catanzaro raced down the floor for a fastbreak-layup to give LVC its first lead of the game at 37-35 with 4:04 to go. Justin Baker followed with a layup and Covey then put the Dutchmen up by six with a layup at 3:12. The Mustangs, however, finished off the first half on an 8-1 run and took a narrow 43-42 lead into the second half.

Abdo began second-half action with back-to-back layups to put LVC back on top at 46-41 with 18:46 left, and after Green hit two consecutive free throws, Covey stole the ball from Mark Terrell on the visitor's next possession and Abdo hit a layup to put the home squad ahead by three at 48-43 with 18:19 to go. Later, at 14:28, the Dutchmen held a 55-51 advantage, but Montaque Wright hit a 3-pointer in transition, and Sean Mayberry followed it up with a layup for yet another change in lead in the game at 56-55. Back-and-forth action continued until at 5:50 when Wright dropped another triple to put Stevenson up 72-71. That sparked a run for the Mustangs, as they eventually went up by eight at 80-72 with 2:50 to go.

With 53 ticks left, Abdo's trey put LVC to within four at 81-77, but Stevenson went 3-of-4 from the charity stripe down the stretch and were able to hold off the Dutchmen for the win.
