How It Happened
ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – Despite a career night from
Justin Baker, Lebanon Valley's men's basketball team fell to Elizabethtown 85-74 on Tuesday night in non-conference action. The Dutchmen fell to 2-3, while the Blue Jays improved to 2-2.
E-Town jumped out to a 15-7 advantage capped by Josh Christ's triple with 15:50 left in the first to make it 15-7. The Blue Jays' hot shooting continued when Bryce Greene knocked down a trey, but Jaylen Reichnier's layup stopped the bleeding momentarily to bring LVC to within seven at 18-11 with 15 minutes left in the opening half. That started a quick 6-0 run for the Dutchmen, as Baker followed with a jumper and Gordon Shoulder capped it with a fastbreak-layup at 13:33 to bring LVC to within three at 18-15. The Blue Jays then notched five consecutive points, but
AJ Catanzaro drilled a 3-pointer at 8:35 to make it a four-point lead for E-Town at 22-18.
From there, the Blue Jays went on a 9-4 run, capped by a Jake DuBois trey, to go ahead by nine at 31-22 with 4:36 to go. The Dutchmen limited the damage and then responded with a 12-1 run, which ended with
Trevor Covey's triple, to make it a two-point game at 32-30 with 2:48 remaining. As was the theme in the first, the home team used hot shooting from beyond the arc to go up by five after Ethan DuBois' 3-pointer. Later, Brandon Berry's triple with 1:15 left in the first made it an eight-point advantage, but Baker hit back-to-back free throws, followed by Catanzaro's jumper, as the Dutchmen cut E-Town's advantage to four at 40-36 heading into halftime.
In the second half, the Blue Jays extended their lead to 10 thanks to an early 6-0 run to go ahead 46-36 with 18:33 remaining. Later, with 16:03 to go,
Jeremy Deihm capped an 8-2 run by the Dutchmen with a layup, bringing the visitors to within four at 48-44. LVC was unable to get any closer, as E-Town went on a 15-7 run over the next seven minutes of action to increase its advantage to 63-51. With 2:55 to go, LVC was able to cut the Blue Jays' lead to single digits after a
Mason Green jumper in the paint, but the home team made their free throws down the stretch and didn't allow a comeback en route to the 85-74 win.
