How It Happened
After a quick start, Lebanon Valley was worn down by Gettysburg's strong shooting in a 76-61 loss at Sorrentino Gymnasium in the championship game of the 2018 Rinso Marquette Women's Basketball Tournament on Sunday afternoon, Nov. 18.
Emily Mealey netted a team-high 16 points and pulled down six rebounds for the Flying Dutchmen (1-4), while
Anne Lehr scored 15 tallies and recorded five assists.
Morgan Bamberger chipped in with 11 points off the bench.
LVC used an aggressive full-court press to smother the Bullets (2-1) in the opening minutes, creating a number of turnovers before
Caroline Scarff converted a layup that put the home team out in front 11-2 at the 4:47 mark of the first quarter.
Gettysburg responded with some timely shooting from 3-point territory, knocking down three consecutive jumpers from beyond the arc to pull ahead for the first time late in the quarter before a
Veronica Venezia layup off a Lehr assist drew things even at 13-13 after one.
It was a back-and-forth affair in the second quarter, with each team trailing baskets for the majority of the 10-minute timeframe. Bamberger knocked down a trey to put the Dutchmen ahead at the 3:15 mark but the Bullets put together a 9-0 run late in the quarter, allowing them to take a 30-26 advantage into halftime.
The third quarter saw the visitors open the half on a 5-0 run before stretching their advantage to 15 midway through the period. LVC used late free throws from
Cassiah Ray, Lehr, and
Jen Eck to draw to with 11 heading into the final quarter.
Gettysburg's strong shooting continued in the fourth quarter, with Emma Dorshimer in particular converting timely buckets to keep the advantage in double digits. Bamberger hit another 3-ball midway through the quarter to cut the deficit to a 13 but that's as close as Lebanon Valley would come the rest of the way.
