How It Happened
Morgan Bamberger's career-scoring night helped Lebanon Valley pull away and defeat Penn State Harrisburg 78-67 on Tuesday night in Annville in non-conference women's basketball action. The Dutchmen improved to 2-4, while the Lion suffered their first loss of the season and fell to 3-1.

The score was knotted at 41-41 with 5:39 remaining in the third quarter when Madison Hemler made a layup to put Harrisburg on top at 43-41. Then, a Rachel Miller 3-pointer increased the Lions' advantage to five at 46-41 with 4:50 left in the third. From there, LVC responsed with an 8-2 run that spanned three minutes, capped by Bamberger's good jumper, to take the lead back at 49-48 with 1:54 to go. With 34 seconds remaining in the third, Laurel amey made a layup on a fastbreak, but Bamberger drilled a three with five seconds left off an Ashley Kline assist, giving the Dutchmen a two-point lead at 52-50 heading into the fourth.

The Dutchmen began the fourth quarter on fire, as Bamberger carried the momentum into the final period, nailing a triple 13 seconds in off an assist from Anne Lehr to increase LVC's lead to 55-50. Harrisburg kept things close in the early going, but Caroline Scarff hit a jumper from Bamberger at 6:08 to put LVC ahead by six at 60-54. On the Lions' ensuing possession, Hemler's layup was blocked by Emily Mealey, and Jen Eck ran the length of the floor for an easy layup to make it an eight-point advantage at 62-54. The Dutchmen continued to lead by a comfortable margin, and with 3:02 left, Kline hit huge 3-pointer to put the game out of reach at 70-58. Down the stretch, Harrisburg never got any closer and LVC hit enough free throws to maintain a double-digit lead en route to the 78-67 victory.

Early on in the first half, the Dutchmen hopped out to a 6-0 lead thanks to a pair of steals from Bamberger and Lehr that were turned into layups from the pair. The Lions clawed their way back and scored seven consecutive points to go up 7-6 with 6:02 left in the first. Back-and-forth action ensued from there and neither team was able to go on any type of spurt until when it was 11-10 in favor of the visitors at 1:54, Eck made a layup to put the Dutchmen back on top at 12-11. Later, Bamberger hit a trey with 54 ticks left in the first to make it a four-point lead for LVC at 15-11, and Cassiah Ray hit a free throw with five seconds remaining to put the home squad ahead 16-11 after one quarter of action.

Harrisburg used the break to its advantage and opened up the second on a 9-2 run, capped by Shanique Mattis' triple, to take the lead at 20-18 with 8:36 left. The Lions went on to stretch its lead to five at 26-21 with 6:02 to go, but Veronica Venezia answered with a layup at 3:28, followed by a Mealey layup at 2:31, bringing LVC to within one at 26-25. Anna Mahan came down the floor and hit a layup on the next possession for Harrisburg, followed by Kendis Butler's jumper with 34 seconds left. Bamberger stopped the bleeding with a big triple with 27 ticks to go, but Hemler made a layup as time expired in the second to give the Lions a narrow 32-28 lead heading into halftime.

Bamberger shined to open up third-quarter action, hitting a 3-pointer after Lehr's jumper to put the Dutchmen ahead 33-32 with 8:57 left. After Harrisburg's trey, Bamberger nailed yet another triple to put the home team up by one at 36-35 with 8:29 to go. The game remained back-and-forth and full of high paced action until LVC began to pull away and hold on for the double-digit win.
