How It Happened
HARRISBURG, Pa. – William Smith netted three third-period goals to pull away from Lebanon Valley and eventually win a 5-1 United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) game on Saturday afternoon at Twin Ponds East. The Dutchmen fell to 2-5-0, 1-4-0 UCHC, while the Herons improved to 5-0-0, 3-0-0 UCHC.
William Smith opened the scoring at the 10:17 mark of the first period after Gina Scibetta found the back of the net on a power-play score. Just over three minutes later, the Herons padded their lead when Stephanie Hampton found the back of the net to give William Smith a 2-0 advantage heading into the second period.
In the second, LVC's defense stepped up and didn't allow a goal to keep the game within reach. The Dutchmen saw a few scoring chances, but were unable to convert. Despite being unable to find the back of the net, LVC was still down by just two heading into the third period.
At the 10:45 mark of the third, the Dutchmen chipped away and cut the deficit to one after
Olivia Cindrich scored off a rebound from
Rachel Havrylkoff. Just over a minute later, however, Abbey Luth netted her first of the game to put the Herons back up by two at 3-1. Luth then went on to add two more goals to complete the hat trick and give William Smith a 5-1 victory.
