How It Happened
In its 2018-19 home opener, Lebanon Valley suffered a 59-41 setback at the hands of Frostburg State on Tuesday evening, Nov. 13 inside Sorrentino Gymnasium in non-conference women's basketball action. The Dutchmen slipped to 0-3, while the Bobcats improved to 1-0.
LVC controlled the action in the early going, jumping out to a four-point advantage at 8-4 with 4:17 left in the first after
Molly Galvin's fastbreak-layup gave the Dutchmen the four-point lead. Later in the first,
Jen Eck hit a two-pointer to make it 12-6 Dutchmen with 1:43 left, and after a good free throw by FSU,
Veronica Venezia made a layup with a minute left and LVC doubled up the Bobcats 14-7 after one quarter of action.
In the second, the Dutchmen came out on fire, getting a layup from
Emily Mealey, followed by a teardrop trey from Venezia to increase their advantage to 12 at 19-7 with 8:18 remaining in the second. FSU, playing in its first game of the young season, answered with a 16-4 spurt that spanned just under six minutes of action to knot the contest at 23-23. In the final minutes of action in the second, the Bobcats netted two more layups and went into halftime with a narrow 27-23 lead.
FSU picked up where it left off in the second and in the third quarter, the visitors opened up a 12-point lead thanks to an early 10-2 spurt to begin the third. With 30 ticks left on the clock,
Caroline Scarff netted back-to-back free throws to cut the deficit to 11 heading into fourth-quarter action.
At the 7:55 mark of the fourth, Mealey made a layup to cut FSU's lead to single digits at 42-33, but that's as close as the Dutchmen would get, as the Bobcats didn't allow any significant runs down the stretch and held on for a 59-41 victory.
