How It Happened
MIDDLETOWN, Pa. – Lebanon Valley's men's basketball team held off a late Gettysburg charge and edged the Bullets 84-80 in the consolation game of Penn State Harrisburg's Tip-Off Tournament on Sunday, Nov. 11. The Dutchmen earned their first victory of the young season and improved to 1-1, while Gettysburg dropped to 0-2.

With 7:51 remaining in the second half, Trevor Covey hit a layup to give LVC a five-point advantage at 67-62. The Bullets answered with the traditional three-point play after Danny Duffey made a layup while getting fouled in the process. After his good free throw, the Dutchmen found themselves up by just two at 67-65 with 7:39 remaining in the contest. A minute later, Jordan Abdo hit a huge 3-pointer to put LVC ahead by five at 70-65. From there until the 2:23 mark, the Dutchmen maintained their small lead, Gettysburg started to mount a comeback.

After Covey made a layup to put LVC up 81-77 with 1:08 to go, Duffey came down the floor and nailed a trey to cut the Dutchmen's advantage to just one at 81-80 with 55 ticks left on the clock. Fortunately for LVC, Zach Tucker went 3-for-4 from the charity stripe down the stretch, allowing the Dutchmen to hold off the Bullets and come away with the narrow victory.

In the early going, back-and-forth action was prevalent with LVC clinging to a one-point lead after Chris Anderson's layup brought the Dutchmen to within one of the Bullets at 15-14 with 13:05 remaining in the opening half. From there, Gettysburg went on a 13-3 run to take an 11-point lead at 28-17 with 10:03 left. LVC's young squad wasn't intimidated, though, as the Dutchmen fought back and answered with a long, 15-7, capped by a Tucker trey, to come to within five of the Bullets at 35-32. Gettysburg held its tight lead for the remainder of the half, but LVC was down by just four at 39-35 heading into halftime.

The Dutchmen opened up the second half on fire, getting a layup from Jeremy Deihm, followed by Covey's triple and another layup from Deihm to take a 42-39 lead with 18:28 to go. The action remained close and the lead changed several times in a few minutes of action, but at 50-50 with 14:42 to go, LVC went on an 11-4 spurt, capped by a Justin Baker layup, to take a nine-point lead at 61-52 with 11:09 remaining. Thanks to that important run, the Dutchmen were later able to hold off a late Gettysburg charge and come away with an 84-80 win.
