How it Happened
PINE VALLEY, Pa. – Jill Moffatt stopped 85 shots between the pipes, but Lebanon Valley was edged 3-0 by No. 1 Elmira on Saturday afternoon in United College Hockey Conference (UCHC) action. The Dutchmen fell to 2-4-0, 1-3-0 UCHC, while the Soaring Eagles jumped to 5-0-0, 4-0-0 UCHC.
Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the opening period and LVC went into the second tied with Elmira. Moffatt stood on her head in the first, stopping all 25 shots she faced. The Soaring Eagles had power-play opportunities throughout the first, but Moffatt and the Dutchmen's defense kept LVC in it after one period of action.
LVC's defense put up a good fight during the second period but, the Soaring Eagles broke through with 2:04 remaining in the middle period when Katie Granato was finally able to sneak one past Moffatt. Elmira was only able to light the lamp once, however, and the Dutchmen found themselves down by just one going into third-period action. Moffatt stopped an impressive 37 more shots in the second.
The Soaring Eagles broke through again in the third, as Katie Granato netted her second goal of the contest at the 12:45 mark. Then, Amanda Zenstein netted her first goal of the game at the 17:47 mark. The Dutchmen's offense was unable to generate many scoring chances and eventually fell by a 3-0 margin.
