How It Happened
ST. DAVID'S, Pa. – Eastern used a big fourth quarter to pull away and down Lebanon Valley 80-64 in the Dutchmen's 2018-19 season opener on Saturday afternoon, Nov. 10. The Dutchmen now sit at 0-1, while the Eagles jumped to 1-0.

With Eastern ahead by four at 57-53 heading into the fourth, Caroline Scarff cut into the lead with a layup 24 seconds into the fourth to bring the Dutchmen to within two. Later, with 8:56 remaining, Scarff tied things up with another layup to make it a 57-57 score. Scarff continued her impressive start to the quarter with a good jumper to put LVC up 59-57, and Anne Lehr followed with a free throw to increase the Dutchmen's advantage to 60-57.

Eastern, however, responded by going on a pivotal 18-0 run that spanned over five minutes of action to go up 75-60. LVC was unable to mount a late comeback and eventually fell by an 80-64 margin.

The game started in impressive fashion for the Dutchmen, as Megan Bisco scored her first collegiate points on a 3-pointer to put LVC up 3-0 early in the first. The game remained back-and-forth and the Dutchmen held a narrow 11-10 advantage with 3:08 left until Morgan Bamberger hit a triple in transition to held LVC take a 14-10 lead. The Dutchmen maintained their advantage through the end of the quarter, with Lehr connecting on a jumper with 10 seconds left to give LVC a six-point cushion at 20-14 heading into the second.

In the second, Veronica Venezia hit a layup, followed by a good free throw to give the visitors an 11-point lead at 27-16. The Eagles, however, went on a 19-9 run to come to within one of the Dutchmen at 36-35 in the closing seconds. Scarff was able to connect on a jumper late, though, putting LVC up by three at 38-35 heading into halftime.

In the early going of the third, Eastern tied things up at 41-41 off Jaelyn Harris' jumper, but later, Venezia dropped a trey at 7:10 to put the Dutchmen back on top at 46-44. The Eagles didn't go away and responded by later tying it up again at 53-53 with 57 ticks left in the third. Eastern then scored four more points off two layups to take a narrow four-point advantage into the fourth.
