Volleyball Falls at Skidmore

Skidmore def. Lebanon Valley 3-0 (29-27, 26-24, 25-17)

How It Happened

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Lebanon Valley's volleyball team suffered a hard-fought 3-0 loss to Skidmore on Sunday afternoon in non-conference action. The Dutchmen fell to 11-9, while the Thoroughbreds improved to 15-7.

Fresh off its two-match sweep at MCLA's Tri-Match yesterday, LVC put up a good fight on its way home from Massachusetts. The first set was tight with the score knotted at 8-8, but the Dutchmen went on a 6-0 run, which included three kills by Amanda Sides and one from Reina Eckman, to take a 14-8 advantage in the set. LVC continued to lead the set, but at 20-15, Skidmore went on a 5-0 run to go up 21-20. From there, the two squads traded off points and the set went past 25. Finally, at 27-27, the Thoroughbreds scored two in-a-row to win the opening set 29-27.

The middle set was also close throughout, as Skidmore led 10-7. Later, the Thoroughbreds were ahead 17-13, but a 3-0 spurt by the Dutchmen, including two attack errors and a kill from Reily Shelly, brought LVC to within one at 17-16. Skidmore responded with a 5-3 run to go up 22-19, but the Dutchmen fought back and scored the set's next four points to take a narrow 23-22 advantage. Then, with LV up 24-23 and on set point, the Thoroughbreds won the next three points to win the second 26-24.

The Dutchmen continued to fight hard in the third set and opened a 9-5 lead early on. LVC continued to stay ahead, but at 12-9, Skidmore went on a set-altering 9-0 run to take a six-point advantage at 18-12. The Dutchmen were unable to dig themselves out of the hole and eventually fell 25-17.
