How It Happened
CHESTER, Pa. – Lebanon Valley scored all three of its goals in the first half and held Widener in check in the second to defeat the Pride 3-1 on Monday evening in the MAC Commonwealth Play-In Game. The Dutchmen (8-6-2) advance to the MAC Commonwealth Championship Semifinal on Thursday, while Widener's season ended at 7-7-3.
After
Bridgett Finn delivered the match's only goal in LVC's 1-0 win over Arcadia that helped them get to tonight's contest, she picked up where she left off in Glenside and just 9:06 into the match, she received a cross from the right side from
Katie Goldsmith and buried it to give the Dutchmen the early 1-0 advantage.
Knowing they needed a good start on the road, the Dutchmen found the back of the net again in the 23rd minute when Finn got a through ball from
Rileigh Jo Evitts and scored her second of the night and third-straight for LVC, to give the Dutchmen a 2-0 cushion.
Then, right before halftime in the 43rd minute,
Kira Pushart ran down the left side of the field and Widener's goalkeeper came out to try to cut the ball off, but Pushart beat her to the mark and passed to her right to a wide-open
Rachael Barrick, and the sophomore netted the first goal of her career to put LVC up 3-0 heading into halftime.
In the second half, with the Dutchmen up 3-0, the Pride got one back in the 63rd minute when Bryanna Garcia found the back of the net off an assist from Brielle Errico. That's all Widener could get, however, as LVC locked down defensively in the final 28 minutes and kept the Pride from making a comeback en route to the 3-1 win.
