How It Happened
CORTLAND, N.Y. – Lebanon Valley's men's ice hockey team suffered a 4-0 setback at the hands of SUNY Cortland on Saturday evening in non-conference action. The Dutchmen moved to 1-1-0, while the Red Dragons jumped to 1-1-0.
This evening's game was supposed to be a home game for LVC, but mold issues inside Hersheypark Arena forced the game to be moved to New York. Tonight's game was delayed an hour and 48 minutes in between the first two periods due to a zamboni malfunction.
Cortland got things going just 53 seconds into the game against the Dutchmen, who blanked Morrisville State 6-0 last evening in Hershey. Alex Storjohann found the back of the net from Sean Perichak for his first tally of the season to give Cortland an early 1-0 lead. Late in the first, the Dutchmen drew a penalty and saw their potent power-play unit get a chance, but the Red Dragons were able to kill it off and they went into the first intermission with a 1-0 advantage.
36 seconds into the middle period, LVC got another power-play opportunity, but again Cortland nixed it despite the Dutchmen getting several shots on goal. Then, 3:10 into the second, the Red Dragons scored a PP-goal to take a 2-0 lead. The Dutchmen took a pair of penalties after that, but were able to kill them off. LVC couldn't, however, kill off their third penalty of the period, as Jacob Gaydos made it 3-0 in favor of Cortland with a goal at 19:08. In the third period, the Red Dragons added another score, and the Dutchmen were unable to solve Cortland's defense, as they fell 4-0 in non-conference action.
