How It Happened
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Lycoming netted a goal in the final minute of double overtime to edge Lebanon Valley 3-2 on Wednesday afternoon in MAC Commonwealth women's soccer action. The Dutchmen dropped to 6-6-2, 2-4-1 MACC, while the Warriors improved to 2-15, 1-6 MACC.

After neither team could score in the first overtime and the majority of the second extra period, with just 51 seconds remaining, Lyco's Bailey Gilmore dribbled past a defender and fired a shot into the back of the net from just outside the box to give the Warriors the narrow 3-2 victory.

Lyco got things going early when Elle Sarracco moved past a defender and scored just 5:49 into the game to give the Warriors the lead. The Dutchmen responded in the 25th minute when Katie Goldsmith ripped a ball from approximately 35 yards out that snuck past Lyco's keeper to even the score at 1-1. Later in the first, in the 37th minute, the Warriors went back on top at 2-1 when Gilmore scored after her teammate found her at the top of the box. Going into halftime, however, the match was still well within reach for the Dutchmen.

In the early going of the second, neither team could put the ball into the back of the net until Rileigh Jo Evitts got a lead pass from Goldsmith and from inside the box, Evitts scored in the 68th minute to even the score at 2-2. After a late foul by Lyco set the Dutchmen up nicely with just eight seconds left, Emma Longenecker created a good scoring chance, but the ball just sailed high and the contest went into overtime.

It was all LVC in the first extra period, however the Dutchmen came up empty. Lea Dungan had a shot in the 94th minute, but Helen Ross was there for the save. Later, in the 97th minute, Lucy McGloshen had a good look but Ross again stopped the shot and sent the game into another overtime.

Down, But Not Out
The fifth and final seed for next week's MAC Commonwealth Tournament is still up for grabs despite tonight's result. Currently, Stevenson sits in fifth at 3-3-1 and LVC is right on its tail at 2-4-1. If the Dutchmen win Saturday and the Mustangs lose, the first tiebreaker each team's result against conference teams beginning with Messiah, then Arcadia, then Albright and so on. If that is even, the next tiebreaker is total goals this season.

Who's Next?
The Dutchmen head to Glenside on Saturday at 3 p.m. to battle Arcadia in a must-win match.
