How It Happened
FREDERICK, Md. –
Rileigh Jo Evitts scored early in the second half to power Lebanon Valley's women's soccer team to a 1-0 shutout-victory over Hood College on Tuesday night in MAC Commonwealth action. The Dutchmen jumped to 6-4-2, 2-2-1 MACC, while the Blazers fell to 3-12, 0-7 MACC.
Just a few minutes into the second half, from the middle of the field
Cheyenne Scott sent a pass down the left side of the field for
Rileigh Jo Evitts. The senior used her speed and slipped past a Hood defender, and using her left foot, she ripped a ball into the right side of the net to break the 0-0 tie and give the Dutchmen a 1-0 lead.
From there,
Serena Donmoyer, along with
Caity Howett,
Emma Longenecker,
Lea Dungan, and
Brianna Mumma, allowed just two shots for the remainder of the half and LVC hung on for the narrow one-goal victory.
In the early going, the Dutchmen had an excellent scoring chance when
Lea Dungan got a free kick in the seventh minute of action after a Blazers' foul. Dungan, who's been known to score off free kicks this season, rocketed a shot but it hit the crossbar and the match remained scoreless. Later in the first, in the 21st minute,
Katie Goldsmith put together another good scoring opportunity for LVC, but her shot was saved by defender Jordan Bailey to keep the game knotted at 0-0.
