How It Happened
PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Lebanon Valley had four different players score in its 4-1 victory over Chatham University on Friday night in men's ice hockey UCHC action. The Dutchmen evened their record and now sit at 7-7-2, 6-2-2 UCHC, while the Cougars dropped to 1-14-3, 1-9-0 UCHC.
LVC came out strong in the opening period, and the scoring began at 7:51 when
Felix Takacsi-Nagy scored on the power play for his first goal of the season with the assists coming from
Brennan Thompson and
Zach Balodis. Later, with a minute and 12 seconds remaining in the opening period,
Cole Hepler found the back of the net from
Brett Johnson and
Bryan Hovanec, giving LVC a solid 2-0 advantage after one period of action.
In the second period, the Dutchmen extended their advantage to 3-0 after
Brett Johnson scored on a one-timer from Balodis and
Jared Karas. LVC's defense along with
Tyler Perhac stood tall throughout the period, and the Dutchmen took a comfortable 3-0 lead heading into the third.
At 8:15 of the third,
Travis Acker put the game out of reach when he scored his 10th of the season, making it a 4-0 contest. Chatham got one back with just over seven minutes left, but it wasn't nearly enough as LVC went on to defeat the Cougars by a 4-1 margin.
Inside the Numbers
- Johnson recorded a goal and an assist on five shots and a +1 rating.
- Balodis notched three assists, while Thompson added two helpers.
- Hovanec picked up an assist and a +2 rating on the evening.
- Perhac made 28 saves to register the victory.
- The Dutchmen held the overwhelming advantage in shots at 46-29.
- LVC was also dominant inside the faceoff circle at 39-19.

Zach McKown went 12-for-18 in faceoffs, while Hepler was 10-for-12 and Johnson went 7-for-8.
Playoff Picture
With the win tonight, LVC is currently sitting in third place in the UCHC with six conference games left. In the UCHC playoffs, which begin Feb. 21, the top six teams of the conference qualify for the tournament.

The Dutchmen and Chatham complete the home-and-home tomorrow at 7 p.m. in the 2018 Dutchmen Outdoor Classic at Hersheypark Stadium.
