How It Happened

Emily Mealey's big day, Lebanon Valley's women's basketball team cruised to a 72-47 victory over Alvernia on Saturday afternoon. The Dutchmen jumped to 10-8, 5-4 MAC Commonwealth, while the Golden Wolves fell to 3-14, 0-9 MAC Commonwealth.
In the early going, LVC got off to a hot start and began the game on a 9-3 run with 4:52 left in the first, capped by
Anne Lehr's jumper. Later, with 2:57 remaining in the first, Alvernia came to within one at 11-10, but Lehr answered with a jumper and Mealey drained a 3-pointer to make it a 16-10 lead for the Dutchmen with 1:54 to go. After the Golden Wolves came up empty-handed on the ensuing play, Mealey dropped another triple on Alvernia, increasing LVC's advantage to 19-10. The Dutchmen eventually went into the second quarter with a 19-12 lead.
In the second quarter, the Dutchmen never let go of their double-digit advantage and with LVC up 35-22 with 58 seconds to go in the period, the Golden Wolves' Kiersten Ingram hit a trey, but the Dutchmen still went into halftime holding a comfortable 35-25 lead.
The Dutchmen maintained their strong lead in the third, and with LVC ahead 41-31 with 7:01 left, the Dutchmen ended the third quarter on an 11-2 run, putting the game out of reach and giving LVC a 52-33 advantage after three quarters of play. The Dutchmen continued to pour it on in the fourth quarter and led by as many as 28 points en route to a 72-47 rout.
Inside the Numbers
 - Mealey finished with a game-high 20 points on 8-of-11 shooting and a 3-for-3 mark from beyond the arc. The freshman stuffed the stat sheet by adding three assists and a steal to go along with four rebounds.

Becky Evans chipped in 14 points, seven boards, four assists, and two steals.

Caroline Scarff added 12 points, including a 6-for-7 line from the charity stripe.

Veronica Venezia scored eight points off the bench for LVC and went 4-for-5 from the field.
 - The Dutchmen outshot Alvernia 47.4-percent to 35.6-percent.
 - LVC also held the edge in total rebounds at 36-30.
 - The Dutchmen scored 20 points off turnovers this afternoon.
Playoff Picture
LVC kept pace with other teams and remains in fifth place in the MAC Commonwealth with seven conference games remaining.
Who's Next?
The Dutchmen return home on Wednesday to host conference-foe Stevenson at 6 p.m.
