How It Happened
HERSHEY, Pa. –
Brett Johnson's third-period, power-play goal broke a 1-1 tie and gave Lebanon Valley a 2-1 victory over Post University on Wednesday night in non-conference men's ice hockey action. The Dutchmen improved to 5-5-1, while the Eagles dropped to 0-12.
At 11:29 of the third period with the score knotted at 1-1 after the two teams traded goals in the second period,
Brad Nolan initial shot was saved by Post's Brandon Brown, but the rebound came right out to Johnson who scored to break the 1-1 tie. The Eagles had a few opportunities late and pulled their goalie in the final minute for an extra attacker, but LVC was able to hold off Post and come away with the narrow victory.
The Dutchmen were the first to get on the board when
Jared Karas scored 3:10 into the second period from
Zak Sheikh and
Cole Hepler. Later however, Post got even with a PP goal off the stick of Evan Lugo. Early on in the third, it looked as though Johnson gave LVC the lead when his shot trickled off the goalie and it looked like the puck may have gone past the line, but the referees deemed it no goal. Johnson, however eventually got his revenge with his game-winning tally later in the period.
Inside the Numbers
 - Karas finished with a goal and an assist, a +1 rating, and three shots on net. He also went five-for-nine from inside the faceoff circle.

 - The Dutchmen were dominant from inside the faceoff circle, winning 51 faceoffs compared to Post's 25.
 - Hepler notched four shots on net, and LVC outshot the Eagles as a team by a 35-23 margin.
