How It Happened
For the second year in a row, Lebanon Valley faced off with Messiah with the Falcons ranked No. 1 in the country. And for the second consecutive season, the nation's top team kept the Flying Dutchmen off the scoreboard. LVC fell to Messiah 6-0 at Anderson Field on Saturday afternoon, Sept. 30.
It was all Falcons (9-0, 2-0 MAC Commonwealth) as the defending NCAA Division III National Champions racked up 29 total shots, including 19 on target, compared to just a pair of attempts by LVC and just one that found its mark.
Messiah's Carissa Gehman racked up five total points on the day thanks to scoring the game's first two goals and assisting on the third. Logan Ryan added a marker just before halftime to give the home team a 4-0 advantage at the break before Kristin Donohue and Casie Stief added scores in the second half to put things out of reach.
LVC's
Cecile Kat got the best look at a potential goal following a Dutchmen penalty corner late in the first half but Messiah goalkeeper Shelby Landes made the stop.
Inside the Numbers
- Messiah held a 10-1 advantage in penalty corner opportunities.
- LVC goalkeepers
Tori ByDeLey and
Kristi Langhans combined to make 13 saves on the day. ByDeLey made six stops and Langhans turned away seven attempts.
- In addition to
Cecile Kat's shot,
Maddie Fox got off the only other attempt for LVC.
- The Falcons are the second ranked opponent the Dutchmen faced this year after taking on No. 18 William Smith earlier this fall.
Who's Next?
The Dutchmen "host" Lynchburg on Tuesday night, Oct. 3. The game will be played at Shippensburg University at 6 p.m.
