Lebanon Valley def. Albright 3-1 (20-25, 25-16, 25-13, 25-14)
How It Happened
READING, Pa. – Lebanon Valley dropped the first set against Albright but then cruised to a 3-1 victory on Tuesday night in MAC Commonwealth volleyball action. The Dutchmen jumped to 10-4, 3-1 MAC Commonwealth, while the Lions dropped to 2-13, 0-3 MAC Commonwealth.
After dropping the opening set in close fashion at 25-20, LVC woke up in the second set and jumped out to a huge 11-1 lead. Albright hung around for a few points until it was 14-7, and then the Dutchmen shut the door, scoring the set's next five points, capped off by an
Abbey Barnhart service ace, making the score 19-7. LVC went on to take the set 25-16, knotting the match at 1-1.
The Dutchmen picked up where they left off in the following set, scoring the first four points, which included kills from
Jess Attieh and
Nina Mentzer, as well as a
Jayna Class service ace. After the Lions got on the board to make it 4-1, LVC again went on a mini run with five consecutive points to increase its advantage to 9-1. Albright never made it close in the set and the Dutchmen went on to win it 25-12 to take a 2-1 lead in the match.
In the fourth set, LVC again got off to a hot start and scored four consecutive points to start the match.
Emily Smeltz served up three straight aces to begin the set, followed by a kill from Class. Later in the set, with the Dutchmen up 17-6, the Lions attempted to come back thanks to five consecutive points to make it 17-11, but LVC answered with the next four points to go up 21-11. The Dutchmen went on to win the set 25-14 and take the match at 3-1.
Inside the Numbers
- Attieh, the reigning MAC Commonwealth Player of the Week, finished with a match-high 15 kills.
Amanda Sides added 11, and Mentzer added seven.
- Class led all servers with six aces and Barnhart registered five.
- Mentzer recorded three blocks and
Kaitlyn Reed and Attieh added one apiece.

Jensen Burnheimer had 37 assists, while Reed (11) and Barnhart (10) were in double digits in digs.
- As a team, LVC led in kills at 44-29 and had an impressive 19 service aces.
What's Next?
LVC heads to Mahwah, N.J. this weekend for the Ramapo Quad. The Dutchmen take on Union College Friday night at 6 p.m. and follow it up on Saturday with matches against Muhlenberg at 11 a.m., and the hosts, Ramapo, at 1 p.m.
