How It Happened
ANNVILLE, Pa. –
Meghan Ross scored with just over five minutes remaining to break a 2-2 and send Lebanon Valley's women's soccer team to a 3-2 victory over DeSales on Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action. The Dutchmen improved to 3-1-2, while the Bulldogs fell to 4-3-0.
At 84:47,
Caity Howett delivered a long pass to
Meghan Ross, who stayed on sides and used her speed to bolt past the defender and create a breakaway. She deked the goalie and put the ball into the back of the net, breaking the 2-2 tie and giving LVC the eventually win.
The Dutchmen didn't take long to score in the early going when Ross passed the ball to
Rileigh Jo Evitts just outside of the middle of the box, and Evitts lofted it over a diving Haley Jacobs for a pretty tally to make it 1-0 just 4:21 into the match.
LVC struck again in the 23rd minute when Ross again used her speed to create a solid scoring chance. Her first shot was saved by the goalie, and her second was stopped by a defender, but from a difficult angle, the senior was somehow able to push the ball across the line, giving the Dutchmen a 2-0 advantage.
DeSales got that goal back quickly, however, when a pair of passes enabled Sydney Amato to get open in the box and score just two minutes later after Ross' score, cutting LVC's lead back to one at 2-1. That score held up until the halftime break.
In the 62nd minute, the Bulldogs' offensive pressure paid off when Rachel Medlar passed the ball to Angelica Bertola, and Bertola scored to knot the game at 2-2, however Ross' late tally proved to be the difference and the Dutchmen hung on for the narrow victory.
