How It Happened
Lebanon Valley left no doubt in the team's 6-0 shutout victory over the host institution on the final day of the annual Drew Fall Festival in Madison, N.J. on Saturday night, Sept. 2.
It was total domination by the Flying Dutchmen (2-0) as they outshot the Rangers (0-2) 44-3 and finished with a 14-3 advantage in penalty corner opportunities.
Cecile Kat was stole the show for the second day in a row after netting the game-winner in overtime against Cabrini on Friday evening. Against Drew, she netted three straight goals to record her first collegiate hat trick and added an assist on the game's final score.
Reigning NFHCA All-Region Second-Teamer
Maddie Fox got things rolling for LVC when she floated what proved to the game-winning goal past Rangers' goalkeeper Ryan Callaghan in the 10th minute and
Karli Alichwer doubled the Dutchmen advantage when she found the back of the cage off a
Rachel Gorman helper with 11:17 left in the first half.
Kat took over and scored twice in a span of 30 seconds in the 26th and 27th minutes, respectively. Fox assisted on the first marker and Kat took care of business herself on the goal that made it 4-0 LVC heading into the break.
The freshman picked up where she left off early in the second half when she completed the trifecta in the 40th minute before Alichwer netted her second marker of the night off a Kat feed to close out the scoring with 13:45 left to play.
It Was Over When…
After
Maddie Fox put the Dutchmen on the board first,
Karli Alichwer deflected home a
Rachel Gorman attempt in the game's 23rd minute. In a contest in which LVC's defensive unit failed to surrender a shot attempt in the first half, a two-goal cushion proved more than enough to seal the victory.
Standout
Cecile Kat – Can you write up a better script for your opening weekend? The freshman got to campus less than three weeks ago from her home in The Netherlands and in her first two collegiate outings netted an overtime game-winner and followed it up with a hat trick. Not a bad way to start off your collegiate career.
