How It Happened
GETTYSBURG, Pa. –
Teanna Shutt netted the overtime winner to give Lebanon Valley a thrilling 1-0 victory over Gettysburg to begin the 2017 season on Friday night in non-conference women's soccer action. Tonight's win is the Dutchmen's second-consecutive OT win over the Bullets.
In the 98th minute and eighth minute of overtime, Shutt came up with the ball after a terrific pass from
Rileigh Jo Evitts. Shutt made the most of the situation and rocketed the ball inside the left post from the top of the box to give LVC (1-0) the thrilling 1-0 win.
The two teams fought hard throughout all of regulation and around the 66th minute of action, freshman goalkeeper
Emma Strickler came up huge when she made a key save on a free kick by the Bullet's Brooke Priddy. Strickler dove full extension to her left to rob Gettysburg of taking the lead.
The Dutchmen saw a good scoring chance in the first half when Evitts' initial shot hit the crossbar and the ball came right to
Cheyenne Scott, however Emma Richart, a defender, made a team save to keep the game tied at 0-0.
Inside the Numbers
- Strickler (1-0) was impressive in her collegiate debut, posting a shutout with two saves.
- Evitts had three shots, while
Meghan Ross, Scott, Shutt, and
Casi Swope recorded two shots apiece.
- The Dutchmen held the edge in shots at 12-9 and shots on goal at 6-2.
- LVC also led in corner kicks at 3-2.

Not only is this LVC's first 2017 victory, it makes first-year coach
Leah McDermott 1-0 as well. "The girls worked so hard for that," worded McDermott. "I've asked a lot of them and they've always responded positively. I really couldn't have wanted anything more tonight. They left it all out on the field."
Who's Next?
LVC is now set for its home opener on Tuesday when the Dutchmen welcome Marywood to Herbert Field. The Dutchmen cruised past Marywood 6-2 a season ago.
