How It Happened
Rileigh Jo Evitts and
Meghan Ross turned in performances for the record books in Lebanon Valley's 9-1 victory over Marywood at Herbert Field on Thursday afternoon, Sept. 7.
Ross set the single-game program record for assists with five, while Evitts matched the single-game program record for total points with 10 and tied the program's single-game record with five goals scored. During a span that stretched from the first half into the second, Evitts netted five scores in a row, three of which came off assists from Ross, and turned a tie game into a rout.
With the score tied 1-1, Evitts converted the game-winner off an assist from
Cheyenne Scott in the 20th minute. Almost exactly a minute later, she found the net again, this time off a feed from Ross. After the break, Ross again connected with Evitts who finished off her attempt and gave the Flying Dutchmen (2-0) a three-goal cushion. The duo hooked up for the third time when Evitts stabbed a Ross cross into the top of the net in the 57th minute, and Evitts capped her scoring output with a breakaway marker less than a minute later.
After LVC fell behind in the early going, it was
Teanna Shutt who converted the equalizer to draw the Dutchmen even with the Pacers (0-2) in the 11th minute. Nearly 60 minutes later, Shutt buried her second of the contest to put the home team ahead 7-1. Both markers came off assists from Ross.
A pair of freshmen notched the first points of their LVC careers when
Kylie Heath found twine following a feed from Rachel Barrick in the 76th minute and
Kira Pushart finished off the game's scoring with her first marker of the season with 10:25 left to play.
Caity Howett, another freshman tallying her first point, added the assist.
