How It Happened
CORTLAND, N.Y. – Lebanon Valley's volleyball team opened up action in 2017 at the Cortland Red Dragon Classic on Friday afternoon by defeating Utica 3-0 before falling to Vassar 3-2.
Utica Match
In the Dutchmen's (1-1) opening match, they cruised to a straight-set win over the Pioneers. LVC dominated in the opening set, winning 25-9 and recording 13 kills at a .306 percentage and had just two errors. The middle set was a bit closer, but LVC still cruised to a 25-12 win thanks to seven kills. In the third set, the Dutchmen put away Utica for good at 25-16 and notched 15 kills at a .343 percentage.
Inside the Numbers

Jess Attieh led the way with seven kills, while
Amanda Sides and freshman
Jayna Class registered five apiece.
- Class was also dominant at the service line and served up a match-high six aces.
Abbey Barnhart added three more aces and
Autumn Leese chipped in two.

Jensen Burnheimer had a match-high 15 assists, while
Erin Koons wasn't far behind with 14.
- Barnhart led the way with 13 digs and Leese dug out seven balls.
Vassar Match
The nightcap featured five sets where Vassar narrowly edged LVC. The Dutchmen had 13 kills in the opening set, however the Brewers recorded 17 kills and squeaked past LVC 27-25. The Dutchmen dominated the second set 25-10, but Vassar came right back in the third set and took it by the same score, 25-10.
LVC took the fourth set 25-18 to send it to a fifth and deciding set, but Vassar again narrowly edged the Dutchmen 15-13 despite 10 kills from LVC in the frame.
Inside the Numbers
- Attieh notched a team-high 18 kills, while Sides and Class chipped in nine each. Attieh also added five blocks.
- Burnheimer was stellar and racked up 44 assists, while Barnhart posted 17 digs.
Who's Next?
The Cortland Red Dragon Classic concludes tomorrow when the Dutchmen take on Alfred University at 1:30 p.m., followed by Nazareth College at 4 p.m.
