How It Happened
GRANTHAM, Pa. – Behind a beautiful pitching performance from
Casey Wall, Lebanon Valley defeated Messiah in game one 2-1 on Saturday afternoon in conference action.
LVC's
Colin Albright got the Dutchmen on the board in the top of the second when he singled through the left side to score
Philip Berry, and later in the inning,
Zac Edwards drew a bases-loaded walk to plate
Chris DeClerico to give LVC an early 2-0 lead.
That's all that Wall needed, as he allowed just one run in his complete game, a solo homerun to Schoen in the bottom of the sixth, but other than that one pitch, he was sensational.
Inside the Numbers (Game One)
- Wall went all seven innings, scattered six hits, and struck out three to earn his third win of the season.
- Marshall Kiessling, Berry, DeClerico, and Albright each recorded a hit for the Dutchmen.
- For the Falcons, Schoen registered two hits.
- Griffits also tossed all seven innings and allowed two runs (none earned) while punching out three.

How It Happened
In the nightcap,
Michael Puglisi hit a two-out, two-run single to tie the game at 4-4 in the top of the seventh to eventually send the game into extras. Messiah, however, scored a run in the bottom of the 12th to salvage the split. LVC now sits at 11-11, 5-6 MAC Commonwealth, while the Falcons moved to 9-13, 3-8 MAC Commonwealth.
In the bottom of the 12th, Berry was on the mound and got two quick outs, but Hayner reached on an error and stole second. After he advanced to third on a wild pitch, the Dutchmen were intentionally walking the next batter and a wild pitch was throw, allowing Hayner to score the game-winning run in a bizarre finish.
The Falcons got the scoring started in the bottom of the first when Fry scored on an error, and later in the fourth, Stewart hit an RBI-singled through the right side for the 2-0 lead. The Dutchmen tied things up in the top of the fifth when
Chase Weik hit a sacrifice fly to score DeClerico, and later in the frame Edwards reached on a fielder's choice to plate
Michael Leri.
Messiah took a 4-2 lead in the bottom of the fifth off a throwing error and an RBI-single, but in the seventh, Puglisi's big two-out hit tied the game again.
Inside the Numbers (Game Two)
-
Joshua Herring and DeClerico led the way offensively with two hits, while Leri was on base twice due to two walks.
-
Michael Houseal tossed 4.2 innings and allowed three earned runs on eight hits to go along with a season-best seven K's.
-
Tregg Liebel was impressive in relief, going six innings and allowing no runs while scattering six hits.
