How It Happened
ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – Elizabethtown College broke a 0-0 tie in the bottom of the 10th to edge out Lebanon Valley 1-0 on Wednesday afternoon in non-conference baseball action. The Dutchmen evened their record to 10-10, while the Blue Jays jumped to 12-8.
In the bottom of the 10th inning with the game knotted at 0-0, LVC got two quick outs, a ground out to
Chris DeClerico and a flyout to
Michael Puglisi. Relief pitcher
Zach Yingst then ran into trouble when Mike Christy singled to right center, followed by a Nick Lorenz single to left, advancing Christy to second. The DH Nick Bein then hit a single to left to score Christy and give E-Town the win.
Each team saw several chances throughout the game but were unable to cash in. Starting pitcher
Joshua Marcelli worked out of several jams, however the Blue Jays' Anthony Lippy also escaped trouble throughout the afternoon. In the bottom of the third, Marcelli allowed back-to-back singles with two outs, but was able to work his way out of trouble to keep things scoreless.
In the top of the sixth, Marshall Kiessling began the inning with a single up the middle, and later
Philip Berry singled through the left side, however the Dutchmen couldn't cash in, keeping the game tied. In the bottom of the frame, E-Town notched two straight singles and then Mike Christy sacrificed the two runners to second and third, but Marcelli escaped yet again, striking out Lorenz before Bein flew out to center.
Inside the Numbers
- LVC left 10 runners on base, while the Blue Jays left nine on.

Zac Edwards and
Joshua Herring each went 2-for-4, while Herring adding a stolen base and Edwards registered a double.
- Marcelli was stellar on the mound, tossing seven innings of shutout baseball while scattering six hits and striking out three.

Eric Marrero was solid in relief and went 1.1 innings and allowed just two hits.
- E-Town's Anthony Lippy went 6.2 innings and allowed nine hits while striking out five.
- Josh Kwak (2-0) got the win after tossing three shutout innings in relief.
- The two teams combined for 21 hits, but just one run.
