How It Happened
CHESTER, Pa. – Widener University used a big sixth inning to overtake Lebanon Valley and eventually win 12-9 on Sunday afternoon in MAC Commonwealth baseball action. The Dutchmen fell to 19-14, 10-8 MAC Commonwealth and the Pride jumped to 22-11, 10-8 MAC Commonwealth.

In the early innings, LVC had built a nice lead, mostly due to a big four-run top of the third. With Widener up 2-1 heading into the top of the third, Chris DeClerico crushed a three-run homerun to left field, propelling LVC in front at 4-2. In the top of the fourth, he increased the Dutchmen's lead to three at 5-2 with an RBI-single to left field.

In the bottom of the sixth, however, Widener sent 14 batters to plate and scored nine runs to go ahead by six at 11-5. The Pride knocked out starting pitcher Michael Houseal and made the Dutchmen use three pitchers in the inning. In the top of the eighth, Nick O'Shea made things interesting when he launched a pinch-hit three-run bomb to right to make it 12-9, but the Pride were able to hang on for the win despite the Dutchmen bringing up the tying run to the plate in the top of the ninth.
