How It Happened
ANNVILLE, Pa. – Lebanon Valley picked up a big conference win when the Dutchmen defeated Messiah 11-6 to earn the series win over the Falcons on Monday in MAC Commonwealth baseball action. The Dutchmen improved to 13-11, 6-6 MAC Commonwealth and Messiah dropped to 9-14, 3-9 MAC Commonwealth.

After an offensive explosion in LVC's 11-5 win over Penn State Harrisburg yesterday, the hitters picked up right where they left off and scored at least a run in each of the first five innings. The Falcons put up a pair of runs in the top of the first off a bloop RBI-single from Kyle Schoen for the early 2-0 lead, but LVC struck for three in the bottom of the first when Michael Puglisi singled through the left side to score Zac Edwards, who led off the inning with a double. After Marshall Kiessling drove in Puglisi with a sacrifice fly, Colin Albright singled to right field to score Chris DeClerico.

The Dutchmen kept things rolling in the bottom of the second when Joshua Herring reached on a fielder's choice to plate Joshua Marcelli, and Puglisi notched another RBI with a single to center field, increasing LVC's advantage to 5-2. A run in both the third and fourth innings put the Dutchmen up 7-2, however Messiah didn't go away quietly as Schoen launched a three-run homerun to left center in the top of the fifth, cutting into the Dutchmen's lead at 7-5.

In the bottom of the fifth, LVC put away the Falcons for good with a four-run frame. Marcelli lined out to left field to score DeClerico, while Herring drew a bases-loaded walk to score Michael Leri. Then, Puglisi continued his monster day with a two-RBI single to left field to score Edwards and Chase Weik. Messiah scored a run in the top of the eighth, but LVC's Eric Marrero, Zach Yingst, and Logan Stover combined to allow just five hits and one run in five innings pitched to turn away the Falcons.
