ANNVILLE, Pa. – Lebanon Valley's softball program is set to host its annual Autism Awareness Day this Sunday afternoon when the Flying Dutchmen host DeSales for doubleheader action at the LVC Softball Park.
As the team has done in the past, LVC has been selling their official Autism Awareness Day t-shirts around campus. The Dutchmen also sell autism awareness wristbands on game day before capping off the day with one of the most fun traditions offered by an athletic team at Lebanon Valley – the annual charity home run derby.
"What a special occasion to be able to play our Autism Awareness Games on National Autism Day," said LVC head coach
Joey Lye. "It will be a great kickoff for a month filled with events around campus and we hope to raise both awareness and funds through our annual home run derby."
April 2 is the ninth annual World Autism Awareness Day and it kicks off National Autism Awareness Month. Autism Speaks Inc. is encouraging organizations around the world to celebrate with unique fundraising and awareness-raising events. The Dutchmen (13-5), currently ranked in the NFCA Division III Top 25 Poll at No. 23, host the Bulldogs for a pair of non-conference matchups with the first pitch of game one set to be thrown out at 1 p.m.
