ANNVILLE, Pa. – Lebanon Valley took the regular season series from Arcadia thanks to
Chase Weik's two-out RBI-single in the bottom of the ninth that gave the Dutchmen a thrilling 7-6 victory on Monday afternoon in MAC Commonwealth action at McGill Field. LVC has now won both of its conference series and sits at 10-6, 4-2 MAC Commonwealth, while the Knight dropped to 13-5, 4-2 MAC Commonwealth.
In the bottom of the ninth with the score tied at 6-6,
Chris DeClerico began the inning by smashing a double to left center that hit of the glove of the left field Shawn Carew. Marshall Kiessling then sacrificed DeClerico over to third with a bunt, putting the game-winning run just 90 feet from home plate. Later in the inning, Weik hit the first pitch he saw down the right field line, plating DeClerico easily and giving LVC the thrilling, narrow win. Arcadia took an early lead in the top of the first when Nick Cardace drove a ball just over the fence for a two-run homerun, but the Dutchmen got both runs back in the bottom of the frame when
Joshua Marcelli ripped a two-out, two-run single to center field to score Kiessling and
Zac Edwards to tie things up at 2-2.
The Knights went back up by a run with one swing of the bat when the reigning MAC Commonwealth Player of the Week, Bryan Gillen, hit a solo shot in the top of the third. Arcadia's Justin Chasmar then doubled home Hohenstein in the inning to give the Knights a 4-2 advantage. In the top of the fourth, Hohenstein reached on a fielder's choice to score Carew, pushing Arcadia's lead to three at 5-2.
The sixth inning was huge for LVC, as the Dutchmen were down 5-3 but plated three in the inning to take the lead from Arcadia at 6-5. First, Edwards singled through the left side to score
Nick O'Shea and
Colin Albright, then
Michael Puglisi hit a big single through the left side that scored Herring to give LVC a 6-5 advantage.
In the top of the eighth, with
Zach Yingst on the mound, Coisson singled and later Hohenstein singled to center, sending Coisson to second. With Jordan Draude up to bat, Coisson stole third and Hohenstein followed to second, and it paid off when Draude grounded out to third base and Coisson was able to score, tying the game at 6-6. The game remained tied until Weik's single clinched the win for LVC.
Inside the Numbers
- Edwards finished with a game-high four hits and he added three RBI.
- Weik finished with a pair of hits and added a run scored.
- Several Dutchmen pitchers saw action today and
Casey Wall (2-2) earned the win after pitching a scoreless ninth inning.
Eric Marrero tossed two innings and gave up three hits but didn't allow a run across the board.
