How It Happened
READING, Pa. – Lebanon Valley hung tough with the MAC Commonwealth's top team, however Albright pulled away in the fourth quarter to defeat the Dutchmen 84-69 on Saturday afternoon in women's basketball action. LVC slipped to 10-12, 7-6 MAC Commonwealth and the Lions stayed undefeated in conference action, moving to 18-4, 13-0 MAC Commonwealth.
Throughout the first half and much of the third quarter, the Dutchmen went stride-for-stride with the Lions and jumped out to an early 10-4 lead with 5:45 left in the first, a spurt that was capped off by a good jumper from
Jasmine Copeland. Albright answered however, tying the game at 12-12 off an 8-2 run with 1:26 left in the opening period. LVC got a
Caroline Scarff layup and a free throw from
Becky Evans to take a narrow 15-13 lead heading into the second.
In the first five minutes of the second quarter, Albright jumped back ahead by eight thanks to a 10-0 run that spanned almost five minutes of action to go up 23-15. However, the first half of spurts continued when LVC responded with a run of its own, a 12-4 spurt to tie things up at 27-27 with 1:19 remaining. The teams traded buckets the remainder of the quarter and Mikayla Lea hit a layup with 12 seconds to go, giving the Lions a small 31-30 advantage at halftime.
LVC scored the third quarter's first four points, a jumper from
Anne Lehr and two free throws from Evans to go up 34-31 and the Dutchmen hung around and kept things close in the third and Albright held just a 52-47 lead going into the final quarter.
The score continued to be close in the early stages of the fourth as the Dutchmen trailed by just two points at 58-56 with 5:41 left. For the next three minutes and change, the Lions blew the game wide open and didn't miss many shots, going on a 20-7 run to take a comfortable 78-63 lead. Albright shot 54.8-percent from the floor in the second half and scored 32 points in the fourth quarter en route to the 84-69 victory.
Inside the Numbers
 - Scarff finished with 16 points, including an 8-for-10 line from the charity stripe, to pace LVC.
 - Evans scored 15 points and knocked down four treys, while
Hilary Yoh (11) and Copeland (10) were also in double digits.
 - Albright had for players in double digits as well, which include Nina Mazzarelli (19), Lea (18), Alysha Lofton (17) and Shannon Thomas (15).

LVC remains the No. 5 spot after today's result, while Albright and Messiah have clinched playoff spots.
