How It Happened
RYE, N.Y. – Lebanon Valley's men's ice hockey team suffered a close, hard-fought loss to conference foe Manhattanville on Friday night in New York. The Dutchmen fell to 3-16-2, 0-10-1 ECACW while the Valiants jumped to 11-9-1, 7-3-0 ECACW.
Manhattanville jumped out to an early advantage, scoring three first-period goals to take a 3-0 lead going into the second period. The middle period, however, was a completely different story as LVC scored three in the period and held the Valiants scoreless to come back and tie things up at 3-3.
Cole Hepler began the scoring when he registered a power-play goal for his team-leading 14th tally of the season off assists from
Nick Skerlick and
Brett Johnson just 2:23 into the second.
Then, only 28 seconds later,
Bryan Hovanec made it a 3-2 contest when he stole the puck from a defender at the blue line and scored on the breakaway, and 5:53 into the period,
PJ Hefferin got in on the action with a goal from Hovanec, turning the game around in a flash and tying things up at 3-3.
For the majority of the third, neither team was able to break the 3-3 tie until with less than two minutes remaining, M-Ville's Adam Platt forced a turnover while on the penalty kill in the offensive zone and put home a rebound after
Joel Eisenhower stopped his first shot from close range. The Valiants added another goal with 11 seconds left while on the power play and they held on for the 5-3 win.
