How It Happened
DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – Lebanon Valley's men's lacrosse team opened up its 2017 season in style with a convincing 12-5 victory over Delaware Valley on Saturday afternoon. The Dutchmen jumped to 1-0, while the Aggies dropped to 0-1.
Del. Val. got on the board first with a tally at 13:02 of the first, however LVC answered in a big way, scoring the game's next seven goals to take a 7-1 advantage with 3:45 left in the second quarter. Throughout that seven-goal spurt,
Matt Torrence scored three times, while
Klayton Garman found the back of the net twice and
Mason Hoff and
Kevin Beaver added the other tallies. The Dutchmen's six-goal lead stuck heading into halftime.
Coming out of the break, Del. Val. netted three consecutive goals in the third quarter to come to within three at 7-4, but
Max Warmingham stopped the bleeding and scored with 3:41 to go to put LVC up by four at 8-4. The Aggies' Jordan Smith then scored less than a minute later to make it an 8-5 game, however the Dutchmen again answered, this time with four consecutive goals to take a 12-5 advantage, which they held on to in the end.
Inside the Numbers
- Torrence finished with four goals on five shots.
- Garman had four points, three goals and an assist on four shots.
- Warmingham scored twice and added two assists and picked up a ground ball.
- Beaver ended with two tallies, while Hoff chipped in a goal and a helper.

Blake Weaver picked up four ground balls and caused a team-high three turnovers on the afternoon.
- Starting goalkeeper
Cameron Epple also picked up four ground balls and made eight saves to earn the victory.
- The Aggies held the edge in total shots at 34-26, but the Dutchmen had the advantage in shots on goal at 17-13.
- LVC went 19-for-24 on clear attempts compared to Del. Val.'s 16-for-19 line.
- The Aggies had 25 ground balls and the Dutchmen picked up 21 as a team.

LVC looks to continue its strong start to the season when the Dutchmen play host to Frostburg State in the Dutchmen's home opener on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
