How It Happened
In a game during which it never trailed, Lebanon Valley put together a big second half to pull away from Hood in a 70-41 rout of the team's MAC Commonwealth foe at Sorrentino Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon, Dec. 9.
Anne Lehr and
Veronica Venezia reached the double-digit scoring mark for the Flying Dutchmen (6-3, 3-1 MAC Commonwealth),
Emily Mealey pulled in a game-high 10 rebounds in just 18 minutes of work, and
Tamara Hanson played the best game of her young collegiate career, finishing with seven points and six boards.
The contest proved to be a back-and-forth affair until midway through the second quarter when LVC used a dominant 15-2 run to close out the first half and take a more comfortable 38-25 advantage into the locker room.
The third quarter was all Lebanon Valley, with the defense holding the Blazers (3-3, 1-2 MAC Commonwealth) to just 10 points in the period and the offense scoring the first nine points out of the break. Venezia scored six points in a row during one stretch to put the Dutchmen out in front by more than 20 for the first time.
LVC led by 25 when the fourth quarter began but provided no let up, as four consecutive free throws by Hanson and
Cortney Parsell pushed the home team to its largest lead of the night at 67-37 with 6:33 left to play. The Dutchmen defense closed out the contest by holding Hood scoreless for the final 5:29.
