How It Happened
HERSHEY, Pa. – A power-play goal with 42 seconds remaining in regulation helped Manhattanville edge Lebanon Valley 3-1 on Saturday night in UCHC and MAC men's ice hockey action. The Dutchmen now sit at 4-5-1, 4-2-1 UCHC, 1-2 MAC, while the Valiants improved to 5-4-2, 5-3 UCHC, 2-1 MAC.
With 2:36 left in the third period, Manhattanville drew a penalty and sent LVC to the box. After
Brad Nolan blocked a Bryan Platt shot, the Valiants' Stephen Gaul ripped a wrist shot into the back of the net with 42 seconds remaining to give Manhattanville a late 2-1 advantage. Then, with 16 ticks left on the clock, Eisenhower was pulled to get an extra attacker on the ice. A faceoff in the Valiants' zone ensued, but Manhattanville won the draw and cleared the puck and Gaul scored an empty-netter with three seconds to go, clinching the game for the Valiants.
Gaul also scored Manhattanville's first goal, a power-play tally at 11:16 of the first. That score stuck until 14:25 of the second period when
Travis Acker capped off a torrid three-game stretch with another goal from
TJ Sneath and
Brennan Thompson on the power play. Neither squad was able to find the back of the net from there until Gaul's game-winner late in the third.
