How It Happened
OWINGS MILLS, Md. – With Stevenson ahead by heading into the fourth quarter, the Mustangs outscored Lebanon Valley 31-15 en route to a 68-51 win on Wednesday night in MAC Commonwealth women's basketball action. The Dutchmen suffered their first conference loss of the season and now sit at 5-3, 2-1 MAC Commonwealth, while Stevenson jumped to 6-3, 2-1 MAC Commonwealth.

The Mustangs held a slight edge at 37-36 heading into the fourth quarter and Stevenson began the fourth by opening up a 16-3 run which was the turning point in the contest. The Dutchmen were unable to overcome that deficit, and Stevenson's offense broke out for 31 points in the quarter en route to the 68-51 win.

It was a low-scoring first period as an Emily Mealey layup with 5:35 to go gave LVC a 7-3 lead and Anne Lehr followed with a jumper to make it 9-3. For the remaining 5:02, the only bucket that dropped was a Kristine Tennyson layup with 36 seconds remaining to bring the Mustangs to within four at 9-5.

In the early stages of the second, the Dutchmen kept a narrow lead and Jen Kaufman's free throw at 7:02 put LVC ahead by five at 12-7. From there, Stevenson answered with a 6-1 spurt to tie the game at 13-13 with 4:30 left in the second. Later in the period, the Mustangs opened up a 21-17 advantage with 1:41 to go, however LVC responded and finished off the quarter on a mini-run at 5-1, to tie the contest at 22-22 at halftime.

The Dutchmen began the third quarter on a 4-0 spurt, but it was quickly erased by the Mustang's 4-0 run, which tied the game at 26-26 with 6:38 to go. From that point, neither team was able to pull away, and each team managed to obtain three-point leads, only to see them evaporate. With eight seconds left in the third, Olivia Coleman's jump shot was good, and Stevenson went into the fourth with a slight advantage at 37-36.
