ANNVILLE, Pa. – Lebanon Valley's men's and women's swim programs hosted Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) foe Stevenson at the Arnold Sports Center on Saturday afternoon, Dec. 2. The men picked up their first victory of the season with a 114-47 decision behind a record-breaking day by
Ian Lloyd, while the women fell 144-105 to the Mustangs despite a number of strong individual efforts.
Â
Lloyd broke one program record in the 200m breast and was less than a second shy from breaking another in the 200m fly. The reigning MAC Men's Swimmer of the Week's time of 2:38.46 in the breaststroke reset his own mark of 2:39.04 originally set in November 2016. In the butterfly, the team captain touched in 2:17.10, just .69 seconds off his own program mark that he posted last fall.
Â
The event opened with the foursome of Lloyd,
Jordan Heavel,
Jacob Ilgenfritz, and
Kyle Stickles edging teammates
Andrew Martz,
Chris Kurtz,
Chandler Mumper, and
Gabe Dimisa in the 200m medley relay. The winners combined for a time of 2:14.18, while the runners-up came home just .81 seconds behind.
Â
Kurtz swam a 2:14.09 in the 200m free and
Charlie Besjak won the 100m back with a mark of 1:14.03. Besjak and Dimisa finished 1-2 in the 50m free, while Kurtz was victorious in the 200m back. Ilgenfrtiz was the only swimmer to take on the 400m free, as was Martz in the 200m IM.
Â
The Flying Dutchmen wrapped up the men's events when the group of Dimisa, Ilgenfritz, Mumper, and Kurtz bested teammates Heavel, Besjak, Stickles, and Lloyd by less than three seconds in a competitive 200m free relay.
Â
On the women's side, it was the youngsters who shined as they have for much of the season to this point, with freshman
Sarah Wolfe picking up the squad's lone victories of the day thanks to a time of 2:25.64 in the 200m free and 5:08.66 in the 400m free.
Â
Freshmen
Kaitlyn Welch,
Courtney Betsock, and reigning MAC Women's Swimmer of the Week
Erika Schell joined sophomore Julianna Currie to swim a 2:17.02 in the 200m medley relay, while
Laura Ciuchta and
Katie Gingrich finished within five seconds of each other in the 800m free.
Â
Team captain
Leslie Hiller swam a 1:18.45 in the 100m back, Betsock touched in 1:25.39 to earn a runner-up finish in the 100m breast, and Schell turned in a MAC-qualifying effort of 2:48.60 in the 200m fly before coming home second in the 100m fly.
Â
LVC wrapped things up when Hiller, Gingrich, Betsock, and Currie beat out teammates
Alexis Morace, Schell,
Erin Kingham, and Welch to claim the runner-up position in the 200m free relay by less than two seconds.
Â
With the 2017 portion of their schedule now behind them, the Dutchmen will enjoy the holidays before returning to the pool in late January. LVC hosts MAC foe Hood for Senior Day at the Arnold Sports Center on Saturday, Jan. 20.
Â
Welch came home second in the 50m free, finishing just .79 seconds off the winning mark, before earning the runner-up spot in the 200m back with an effort of 2:50.75.
Nicole Flohr's time of 1:07.82 was good enough to clinch third place in the 100m free and Betsock's 3:02.36 in the 200m breast was less than four seconds off the program record.
