How It Happened
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Four first-half goals powered No. 12 Lycoming past Lebanon Valley's men's soccer team in the semifinal round of the 2017 MAC Commonwealth Championship tournament on Wednesday afternoon. The Dutchmen were eliminated and fell to 11-5-1, while the Warriors advanced to Saturday's championship game against either Messiah or Arcadia and now sit at 17-2.
Lyco's first goal came just over six minutes into the game when Sainclair Tueno netted his ninth of the season off a short pass from Jordan Logan. Then, eight minutes later, Abdullahi Abdi scored his sixth of the season to put the Warriors ahead quickly at 2-0. In the 20th minute, Lyco made it a three-goal advantage when Kyle Stettenbauer scored from about 10 yards out, and the Warriors' fourth tally of the half came in the 41st minute when Daniel Anwanwan netted his second of the season. Lyco put LVC in a deep hole in the first half, but there was still 45 minutes left to play.
The Dutchmen applied a large amount of pressure in the early moments of the second half, and in the 59th minute,
Rob Hanosek cut into the Warriors' lead when
Tyler Skye's corner kick was deflected by goalkeeper Chris Solecki, but Hanosek was there to put it home and bring LVC to within three at 4-1.
Less than two minutes after the Dutchmen got on the board, Lyco nixed any sort of comeback when Duc Momo scored on a header off of Mateo Velasquez's corner kick, and the Warriors went on to win 5-1.
