How It Happened
READING, Pa. –
Teanna Shutt delivered a first-half goal to send Lebanon Valley to a 1-0 victory over Albright in the 2017 MAC Commonwealth Women's Soccer Play-In Game on Tuesday evening. The Dutchmen improved to 9-5-3, while the Lions fell to 10-8-1.
In the 13th minute, Shutt ran down the left side of the field after
Maya Cohen fed her the ball. Shutt made a move on a defender and ran parallel with the goalie's cage and somehow snuck it past Alexis Tunney's left side and into the back of the net for the game's lone score. The Dutchmen saw many more scoring chances than Albright in the first half, but in the second half, it slightly changed in Albright's favor.
The Lions were able to get more pressure on
Emma Strickler and LVC's strong defense, but the Dutchmen were up to the task and nixed every scoring opportunity that Albright built. The Lions were able to generate some corner kicks late in the game, but the Dutchmen's defense, along with Strickler, never allowed a goal to sneak through.
The Lions' best scoring chance came in the 58th minute when Amanda Fulcher's shot sent Strickler diving in the air, and the freshman was able to get a hand on it and punch it off the crossbar and allowed no further damage.
