How It Happened
ANNVILLE, Pa. – Lebanon Valley's men's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to No. 16 Lycoming in the Dutchmen's 2017 MAC Commonwealth opener. LVC now sits at 6-2-1, 0-1 MAC Commonwealth, while the Warriors jumped to 11-1-0, 2-0 MAC Commonwealth.
Lycoming netted its first goal in the 15th minute when the Warriors drew a foul just outside the box, giving defender Jake Webb a crack at a free kick. With his left foot, he bent it around LVC's wall and past a diving
Cam Avery for the early 1-0 advantage. The Dutchmen got a big break in the 38th minute when the Warriors fouled an LVC player in the box, resulting in a penalty kick.
Youssef Ouayakhaf was called upon to make the kick, but Lycoming's Chris Solecki dove to his right and made the finger-tip save, keeping Lycoming ahead at 1-0, a score that stuck after one half of action.
In the 67th minute, the Warriors stretched their lead to 2-0 when Abdullahi Abdi ran down the middle and blasted a ball off the right post and into the back of the net. Down the stretch, the game got more chippy, resulting in in 35 fouls (25 for Lycoming, 10 for LVC) and two yellow cards (two for each team). The Dutchmen generated some scoring opportunities down the stretch, but were unable to capitalize, resulting in the 2-0 defeat.
