How It Happened
Lebanon Valley stayed within striking distance all day long but was never able to take the lead in a 4-3 loss at Alvernia on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 21.
A stretch that saw the Knights (9-8, 2-4 MAC Commonwealth) net back-to-back goals late in the second half proved the difference, as a Liz Stierle score in the 51st minute followed by a Michaela Ferlow marker with less than six minutes to play gave the home team a 4-2 advantage in the closing moments.
Rachel Gorman scored her second goal in as many games when she gathered a pass from
Karli Alichwer through traffic and finished off her attempt to cut the deficit to one goal with 2:59 left to play. Unfortunately for the Flying Dutchmen (6-10, 2-4 MAC Commonwealth), the equalizer never came.
Faith Dinger tied things up at 2-2 heading into halftime when she put her shot past Arcadia goalkeeper Maya Stern and into the left side of the cage in the 25th minute off Alichwer's first assist of the game.
The Knights' Isabelle Houser gave her team the lead in the 15th minute after
Cecile Kat got LVC on the board 10:26 into the contest when she worked her way through the Arcadia defense and put her shot into the lower left side of the cage.
Stierle opened the game's scoring with off a Houser helper to put the home team on top 1-0 just seven minutes into the contest.
