Lebanon Valley def. Gallaudet 3-1 (25-15, 12-25, 27-25, 25-22)
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Lebanon Valley's volleyball team split a tri-match at Gallaudet University on Friday night. The Dutchmen fell to the University of Scranton 3-0 before defeating the hosts 3-1 in the nightcap.
How It Happened – Scranton Match
In the opening set, the Dutchmen had a 10-8 lead, but an 8-0 run by the Royals put them ahead 16-10. LVC didn't go away quietly and actually later came to within a point at 22-21 thanks to a
Jayna Class kill, but Scranton scored the set's final three points and took the set 25-21.
The middle set was close in the early going and an
Amber Deshong kill put the Dutchmen up by two at 9-7, however another large spurt by the Royals, this time an 8-0 run, put Scranton back on top at 15-9. After a Royals' service error made it 15-10, Scranton scored seven straight to increase the lead to 22-10. They eventually held on and took the set 25-12.
The Royals jumped out to an 8-4 advantage in the third set, but the Dutchmen battled back to even the set at 12-12 thanks to three consecutive points, including
Autumn Leese's kill to tie it. Later, with Scranton up 20-19,
Jess Attieh and
Adrianna Lattanzi recorded back-to-back kills and Lattanzi followed it up with a service ace to put LVC ahead 22-20. After a Royals' timeout, Scranton earned back-to-back points to tie it at 22-22, and after a Class kill, the Royals scored the final three points to edge LVC 25-23 and win the match 3-0.
Inside the Numbers – Scranton Match
- Class finished with six kills and Attieh added five.
- Class recorded three blocks, while
Jensen Burnheimer registered 17 assists.
- Lattanzi and
Abbey Barnhart dug out 11 balls each.
How It Happened – Gallaudet Match
In the opening set against the Bison, LVC opened up a 10-1 lead to begin the set, capped by an Attieh kill. The Dutchmen continued their comfortable lead until Gallaudet came to within seven at 22-15, but LVC shut the door and got a Deshong kill, followed by two consecutive kills from
Amanda Sides, to win the first set 25-15.
After the Bison edged the Dutchmen 25-21 in the second set to even the match at 1-1, the third set was wild late. With the set tied at 23-23, the Bisons' Brynn Schmidt notched a kill to put Gallauet ahead 24-23, but Attieh answered with a kill of her own to tie the set at 24-24. Then, at 25-25, two straight attack errors by the Bison clinched the set for the Dutchmen at 27-25, giving LVC a 2-1 lead in the match.
In the final set, it was tied 10-10, but a mini 3-1 run put the Dutchmen up 13-11. Gallaudet didn't go away easily though and later tied up the set at 16-16. LVC played well down the straight and didn't allow a fifth set to happen. Attieh finished it off on match point with a kill and the Dutchmen went on to win 25-22 to win the match 3-1.
Inside the Numbers – Gallaudet Match
- Attieh led the way in kills with a match-high 20, while Deshong chipped in eight.

Nina Mentzer and Class had three blocks apiece and Burnheimer added two.
- Burnheimer finished with 34 assists and 15 digs, while
Emily Smeltz added 15 digs for LVC.
Who's Next?
LVC's final regular-season home match is set for this Tuesday at 7 p.m. when the Dutchmen welcome Lycoming to Sorrentino Gymnasium.
