How It Happened
ANNVILLE, Pa. – Lebanon Valley scored four times in the opening half and hung on to defeat Alvernia 4-2 on Tuesday afternoon in MAC Commonwealth women's soccer action. The Dutchmen jumped to 6-2-3, 2-1 MAC Commonwealth and the Golden Wolves fell to 4-8-1, 1-3 MAC Commonwealth.
The Dutchmen got on the board very quickly when
Rileigh Jo Evitts dribbed down the left side off a pass from
Casi Swope and cut into the middle and scored only 15 seconds into the game. It's tied for the 18th-fastest goal in NCAA DIII history. Back on Sept. 20, 2014, former LVC player Amanda Douglass scored 15 seconds into the match against Eastern.
Just seven minutes later, LVC made it a two-score game when
Teanna Shutt ran down the left side and made a move and beat Alvernia's Jessica Plunkett to make it 2-0. Six and a half minutes later, Shutt was at it again when
Meghan Ross' shot was saved, but the ball slipped through the hands of the Golden Wolves' keeper and right to Shutt's feet, and the senior knocked it home for her seventh tally of the season.
After Alvernia made it 3-1 in the 19th minute off a goal from Claire Brier, freshman
Caity Howett took found the ball in a scrum after a corner kick in the 42nd minute and registered the first goal of her career, giving the Dutchmen a 4-1 lead heading into halftime. The Golden Wolves got one back in the 62nd minute, but LVC's defense stood tall for the remainder of the half and the Dutchmen went on to win 4-2.
