How It Happened
Lebanon Valley opened up the new year by cruising past Post University by a 9-2 margin to earn its second victory of the season on Friday night in non-conference men's ice hockey action. The Dutchmen jumped to 2-8-2, while the Eagles fell to 2-11 Â
LVC dominated the first period and were impressive on the power-play, going 3-for-3 on the man advantage, while adding an even-strength goal late in the period.
Cole Hepler netted the Dutchmen's first goal of the game, a PP goal 4:23 into the first off assists from
Brett Johnson and
Brad Nolan. Four minutes later, at 7:33, LVC was on the PP again and
Jared Karas found the back of the net from Nolan again.
Less than two minutes later at 9:26,
Bryan Hovanec scored the Dutchmen's third PP goal of the period and Nolan earned his third assist in less than 10 minutes of action.
Travis Hall added an even-strength goal with four minutes remaining and LVC went into the first intermission with a big 4-0 lead.
In the second period, the Dutchmen netted yet another PP goal when Hepler scored his second of the game from Karas and Johnson to make it 5-0 and at 9:41,
PJ Hefferin scored his first of the game from
Matthew Reno and
Travis Acker, making it a comfortable 6-0 lead for the Dutchmen, who showed no rust whatsoever after a month-long break. At 11:07 of the second, Karas added his second of the game, followed by a Post goal at 17:26, but LVC still led at 7-1 heading into the third.
LVC found the back of the net twice in second, starting with Hefferin's second of the game at 5:42 from
Mike Straub and
Joey LaBonte, followed by a
Nick Skerlick goal at 10:38 from
Cody Pessig and
Matthew Reno, as the Dutchmen went on to take the easy win at 9-2.
