How It Happened
Lebanon Valley made 15 three-pointers in an 80-72 victory over defending MAC Commonwealth champion Lycoming at Lamade Gym on Wednesday night, Jan. 4.
Behind double-digit scoring performances from
Travis Conrad,
Sam Light,
Andy Orr, and
Collin Moore, the Flying Dutchmen (9-5, 3-2 MAC Commonwealth) handed the Warriors (11-2, 4-1 MAC Commonwealth) their first conference defeat of season.
LVC led by as many as 16 points with less than four minutes to play after Lyco's 8-2 run to begin the second half gave the Warriors a 48-45 advantage with 14:57 remaining.
Leading 58-52 midway through the second half, the Dutchmen put together a game-changing 14-4 run over a span of 5:21 that saw Light, Moore, and Conrad each bury crucial jumpers from beyond the arc.
Lycoming's largest lead of the night came at the 11:34 mark of the first half when Nyk King swiped a steal and converted a layup in transition on the other end. LVC answered with 10 consecutive points, including back-to-back triples from Conrad, to halt the home team's momentum and eventually take a 43-38 lead into the break.
It Was Over When…
Following a strong start to the second half by the Warriors, LVC stemmed the home team's run, reclaimed the advantage following a steal and fast-break jumper by
Sam Light at the 14:40 mark, and put the game on ice thanks to 14-4 run capped by a
Marquis Davis free throw with 3:56 left to play. Leading 72-56 with less than four minutes remaining, the Dutchmen kept Lycoming at bay and sealed arguably their most impressive win of the season.
