How It Happened
PINE VALLEY, N.Y. – Elmira scored five goals in the first period and went on to defeat Lebanon Valley 7-1 on Saturday night in ECAC-West men's ice hockey action. The Dutchmen fell to 3-15-2, 0-9-1 ECACW, while the Soaring Eagles improved to 7-11-1, 2-6-0 ECACW.
LVC struggled to stay out of the penalty box in the opening period, resulting in three power-play goals from Elmira in the period. The Soaring Eagles would add an even strength goal, as well as a short-handed goal late in the first to take a 5-0 lead into the second period.
After Elmira added another tally at 6:27 of the second to make it 6-0, the Dutchmen got on the board when
Brett Johnson netted a goal from
Cole Hepler and
Brad Nolan, however that was all the offense that LVC was able to muster, as the Soaring Eagles added a goal late in the third and eventually held on for the 7-1 victory.
Inside the Numbers
 - Johnson netted his 11th goal of the season, good for second on the team. Hepler currently leads with 13 and with his assist tonight, Hepler extended his team-lead in points at 28.

Joel Eisenhower started the game and made 13 saves until he was relieved by
Tyler Perhac, who made 22 saves in over 43 minutes of action.
 - Hepler went 10-for-13 from inside the faceoff circle,
Bryan Hovanec was 9-for-10, and
Brennan Thompson won 15-of-25 as the Dutchmen held the strong edge in total faceoff wins at 54-30.

LVC continues its road trip on Friday when the Dutchmen take on Manhattanville at 7 p.m. before traveling to take on Neumann on Saturday at 4 p.m.
