How It Happened
No. 9 Buffalo St. broke a scoreless tie 5:01 into the third period and eventually held on for the 3-2 win over Lebanon Valley on Friday night in non-conference men's ice hockey action. The Dutchmen slipped to 3-12-2, while Buffalo St. improved to 12-3-1.
With the score tied at 1-1 in the third period, the Bengals' Anthony Passero was able to find the back of the net 5:01 into the period to give Buffalo St. a 2-1 advantage. In the closing minutes of the period, LVC elected to pull goalie
Joel Eisenhower for an extra skater with the ensuing faceoff happening in Buffalo St.'s zone. The Bengals, however, won the faceoff and Taylor Pryce was able to skate down and put home the empty-netter, giving Buffalo St. a 3-1 lead with just over a minute left.
The Dutchmen made the final 30 seconds quite interesting, as
Bryan Hovanec was able to beat the Bengals' Mike DeLaVergne with 26 seconds remaining to make it a one-score game at 3-2, but the Bengals held off the Dutchmen in the final seconds to secure the narrow victory.
Buffalo St. scored the game's first goal, a power-play tally, with just over two minutes remaining in the first, but LVC struck by and tied the game 5:45 into the second period when
Jake Thomas scored a power-play goal from
PJ Hefferin and Hovanec.
